Incest, gore and melted meat

This time I will talk about another fun horror movie that I discovered very recently: Body Melt.

The movie comes from Australia. Brophy and Rod Bishop wrote the script. It was filmed in1993, although it seems from the ’80s.

In August 2006, Umbrella Entertainment released a DVD version. on the 25th ofSeptember In 2018, Vinegar Syndrome released another version on DVD and Blu-ray.

The plot

The story begins in a suburb of Homesville, Melbourne called Peebles Court. The neighbors start to receive by mail some free samples of a medicine called Vimuville. The product claims to be a dietary supplement, but…

Side effects

A scientist who escaped from the lab drives to Peebles Court to try to warn the neighbors. The problem is that he is already under the influence of the drug.

Thus we learn that the first side effect is hallucinations. The second phase is glandular (whatever that means). Finally, the drug causes all kinds of mutations and, as the title already anticipates, the body begins to melt.

The police are confused. The deaths appear to be random. But the local doctor knows more than meets the eye.

The other story

While all this is happening, we follow two teenagers who are driving down a road. Due to a technical problem, they request help at a farm, inhabited by a family where congenital deformities abound, probably due to incest.

Apart from the physical deformities, the group is most picturesque: The father keeps repeating Deep Purple lyrics (they never explain why, but I found it amazing how he managed to say each phrase at the right time). The daughter (who is so deformed that it makes us doubt that she is really a woman) seems to be attracted to one of the boys. His friend does not object, but advises him to “look for the third leg”.

The consecuences of incest

But as expected from a horror movie, the truth turns out to be much worse. The family’s quirks pale in comparison to the fact that they are, in effect, serial killers. Things don’t go well for the boys.

The good news is that the girl does turn out to be a woman, but that matters very little after she offers her lover a love bite and it turns out to be literal. At this point we find out that the father had already told her to “keep it within the family.”

This story, at first, seems to have no connection to the rest, but later we found out that the father had had something to do with the development of the drug and that his family’s deformities were not due “only” to incest.

The vitamins have potassium benzoate

The film has a false climax where everything seems to be resolved, but then the drug reaches the supermarkets…
